Though I’m not in a touring band anymore, I am always looking for opportunities to work on music projects. One of last year’s graduating students at SSIS is a talented and accomplished singer-musician. Leilanie told me that she would be taking a gap year after graduating from SSIS to work on her music performance portfolio. She wanted to focus on playing gigs around Saigon and the region, and work towards attending music school the next year.

You Still Can’t Sell Sameness

This is a quick update to my previous blog post about the importance of differentiation in our marketing efforts. There are many things that all international schools have in common. For instance, SSIS offers the IB Diploma program—which is a great thing. Our closest competitors in the area offer the same program. So while this is something that prospective parents/families put a high value on, it’s not necessarily what makes us stand out from the crowd. But when you mention that we offer both IB and AP, ears perk up. (more…)

360° Zip Line Video from Chiang Mai, Thailand!

If you know me well, then you know that flying over the rainforest canopy, 300 ft. above the ground, tethered to a single cable 2,400 ft. in length is not exactly my cup of tea. So you will have to excuse some of the language in the video below. But I have to give it up to the team at "Flight of the Gibbon" in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for an unforgettable experience. This was a family trip that Tara booked, and it was by far the wildest zip line adventure we'd ever been on—actually it was the first for Dominic (age 6)! I have to admit the view is stunning. It was probably the closest experience to Avatar that I'll ever have.
